SUNSHINE COAST DAY OUT – Itinerary: Sunshine Coast 4×4 drive with freshwater swim

Stuck for something to do and keen for a nice drive and bite to eat?

Head to the Sunshine Coast for a day full of selfie worthy experiences and yummy food!

Take a drive to Maleny, for cheese, a decent coffee, and a picnic by the water…

If you’ve got a 4×4, make sure you check out the gazillions of mountain tracks that criss cross the southern Sunshine Coast hinterlands.

Start off at the Gantry via Dayborough (after you’ve grabbed an award winning snack at the bakery) and you can wind your way along Love Days Road through scenic bushland and water crossings, all the way to Rassmussen Rd at Neurrum Creek.

After a quick pit stop for lunch in Woodford, you can head back off North on the tracks through Bellthorpe National Park and Conondale National Park (you’ll find yourself out somewhere near Kenilworth in the end – so allow a good few hours!) – or head east from Woodford to explore the pine trails and take a look at the scenic Glass House Mountains lookout.

You can risk it and just go exploring on any of these track – but make sure you’ve got a few good hours of sunlight left (and your kids don’t need to be picked up in an hour!) or you can check out the (very basic) mud maps provided by Qld parks here (Bellthorpe) and here (Conondale). There are a range of maps and brochures you can find on here also.

Tried and tested routes:

Dayborough through Mt Mee past the Gantry on to the Love Days Rd track and finish up at Woodford via Rassmussen Rd  (Stop at Rocky Hole for a swim!)

Or, start at Woodford and head to the Bellthorpe National Park tracks (starting at Stony Creek if you’d like a freshwater dip first!) and then head through the matrix of tracks, to coming out through Boolumba Creek or Charlie Morelands Day Use & Camping areas into Kenilworth, or head west and check out Jimna (don’t be surprised if you see some wild Deer too!).

Explore the map to see what’s happening near you!
